A B S T R A C T O F T H E D I S C L O S U R E The invention is concerned with an improvement in a manually acti- vated fuel priming pump for an internal combustion engine comprising a housing having a bore closed at its lower end by a flange disposed transversely to the bore. A piston in the bore is connected by a piston rod at its upper end with a handle, the piston being reciprocally mounted in the bore pump fuel from a first to a second valve located in the flange of the housing. The piston has a piston seal slidingly sealing it with low friction against the bore. The improvement of the invention comprises an extension co-axial with the piston and extending therefrom towards the flange and seal means for forming a seal between said extension and said bore to permit flow from a space between said piston and said flange to said second valve during the end part of the compression stroke while preventing the flow in the reverse direction during the end part of the compression stroke and during the beginning part of the suction stroke.
