A B S T R A C T A fuel pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine includes a spring loaded fuel quantity control member which is moved by increasing fluid pressure in a chamber to reduce the amount of fuel supplied. The pressure in the chamber is controlled by a pair of ON/OFF valves , valve admitting fluid to the chamber and valve allowing fluid to escape from the chamber. When the valves are closed an hydraulic lock is created to prevent movement of the member by mechanical forces applied to it during operation of the apparatus.
