This invention relates to the controlled molecular weight production of macromonomers and polymers with terminal conjugated double bonds from starting monomers including, but not limited to, substituted butadienes. The terminal diene end thus produced is also a potential reaction site for further polymerization or functionalization. The molecular weight is controlled by use of Co chain transfer catalysts and appropriate process conditions.

La présente invention concerne la production à masse moléculaire contrôlée de macromonomères et de polymères à doubles liaisons de conjugaison des extrémités des monomères de départ, comprenant de façon non limitative les butadiènes substitués. L'extrémité diène terminale ainsi produite constitue aussi un site potentiel de réaction pour une polymérisation ou fonctionnalisation ultérieure. Pour contrôler la masse moléculaire, on a recours à des catalyseurs à transferts de chaînes Co et à des conditions de traitement appropriées.
