27 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A construction for an axial air gap, functionally modular brushless D.C. motor is described. The total motor function is separated into certain discrete electrical or electromechanical functions, each of which is embodied in a separate physical module in the total motor assembly. The separation of the functional entities permits a very flexible design response to a variety of application needs in conjunction with minimal changes in manufacturing tooling and methods.
