HVAC systems having interior surfaces exposed to moist air are protected against fungal growth by coating the interior surfaces with an adherent flexible polymer film which includes a fungicidal composition in an amount effective to provide a zone of inhibition against multiple fungal species of at least 1 mm, and which employs active fungicidal ingredients which are substantially non-volatile and non-soluble in water. Suitably the film is formed by application of a latex coating formulation, free of arsenic, mercury, lead, tin, chlorine or bromine, the formulation comprising an emulsion of a flexible polymer having suspended therein a mixture of fungicides, the fungicide mixture including a barium metaborate fungicide and a second fungicide selected from the group consisting of iodo alkynyl alkyl carbamates, diiodomethyl-p-tolylsulfone, 2-4-thiazolyl-benzimidazole, 2-n-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one, zinc dimethyldithiocarbamate, zinc 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, potassium n-hydroxymethyl-n-methyldithiocarbamate, sodium 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, 5-hydroxymethoxymethyl-1-aza-3,7-dioxa-bicyclooctane, 2,3,5,6-tetrachloro-4-pyridine, zinc 2-pyridinethiol-1-oxide and N-trichloromethylthiophthalimide.

Les systèmes de chauffage, de ventilation et de climatisation de l'air (CVCA) ayant des surfaces intérieures exposées à l'air humide sont protégés contre la multiplication des champignons lorsque l'on recouvre ces surfaces d'un film polymère souple adhérent qui comprend une composition fongicide dans une quantité efficace pour obtenir une zone d'inhibition de la multiplication de multiples espèces fongiques d'au moins 1 mm et qui emploie des ingrédients fongicides actifs, essentiellement non volatils et non hydrosolubles. Le film est judicieusement formé par application d'une formulation enrobante de latex, exempte d'arsenic, de mercure, de plomb, d'étain, de chlore ou de brome, la formulation comprenant une émulsion d'un polymère souple dans lequel est suspendu un mélange de fongicides, ce mélange comprenant un premier fongicide, le métaborate de baryum, et un second fongicide choisi dans le groupe constitué des alkylcarbamates d'iodo-alkynyle, du diiodométhyl-p-tolylsulfone, du 2-4-thiazolyl-benzimidazole, du 2-n-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one, du diméthyldithiocarbamate de zinc, du 2-mercaptobenzothiazole de zinc, du n-hydroxyméthyl-n-méthyldithiocarbamate de potassium, du 2-mercaptobenzothiazole de sodium, du 5-hydroxyméthoxyméthyl-1-aza-3,7-dioxa-bicyclooctane, de la 2,3,5,6-tétrachloro-4-pyridine, du 2-pyridinethiol-1-oxyde de zinc et du N-trichlorométhylthiophtalimide.
