ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION An improved fuse link has a fusible element attached between first and second terminals. The first terminal is attached to, or integral with, a length of flexible stranded cable. The terminals, the fusible element and some of the cable are within an arc-extinguishing sheath. The cable is unified and stiffened for a selected distance immediately adjacent the first terminal to act thereat sub- stantially as a solid rod. The unified region acts as a guide for the first terminal moving through the sheath, reduces binding friction between the cable and the sheath, and eliminates "mushrooming" of the cable within the sheath.
