This invention is a fused loop (10) of an elongated material such as a surgical suture, and apparatus for making the loop. Portions of one or more segments (12) to be joined together are fused in a welding process to form a welded joint (14). The shear area of the fused portion (20) of the joint (14) determines the strength of the joint (14), and is thus preferably relatively large. Various configurations for the welding apparatus facilitate the creation of relatively large fused portions (20) of the joint (14) by maximizing contact between at least one of the welding members of the apparatus, and at least one of the segments (12) to be joined.
L'invention concerne une boucle réunie par fusion (10) d'un matériau allongé, tel qu'une suture chirurgicale, et un dispositif servant à élaborer cette boucle. On effectue la fusion de parties d'un ou plusieurs segments (12) à réunir les uns aux autres au moyen d'un procédé de soudage, de manière à obtenir un joint soudé (14). La zone de cisaillement de la partie (20) réunie par fusion du joint (14) détermine la résistance de ce joint (14) et est, par conséquent, de préférence, relativement importante. Différentes configurations du dispositif de soudage facilitent la création de parties (20) relativement importantes du joint (14) réunies par fusion et se basent sur l'optimisation du contact entre au moins un des éléments de soudage du dispositif et au moins un des segments (12) à réunir.
