Disclosed are compounds of the Formula I (see formula I) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts, esters, amides, and prodrugs thereof, wherein R1 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, COOR7, (un)substituted aryl, (un)substituted heteroaryl, (un)substituted arylalkyl, or (un)substituted heteroarylalkyl; R3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R2, R4, R5, and R6 independently represent hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxy, cyano, nitro, amino, mono- or dialkylamino, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, carbamoyl, sulfamoyl, trifluoromethyl, or alkylthio; R7 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; and R8 is hydrogen or oxo. Also provided is a method for selectively antagonizing the M4 muscarinic receptor and a method for treating Parkinson's disease.
