ABSTRACT The resistance to weld toe corrosion, exfoliation corrosion, and stress corrosion of joints welded from parent portions (of aluminium-zinc alloys containing magnesium) is in- creased by a pre-fusion application of a coating, comprised by a similar aluminium-zinc alloy containing less magnesium, the coating being applied by a hot-spraying process so as to coat at least the region of mutual interface and the intended weld zones. The utility of the method mainly lies in the increased life of the weld, ie the prevention of its degradation.
