A method is provided for introducing a GAG binding site into a protein comprising the steps: - identifying a region in a protein which is not essential for structure maintenance; - introducing at least one basic amino acid into said site and/or deleting at least one bulky and/or acidic amino acid in said site, whereby said GAG binding site has a GAG binding affinity of Kd <= l0~M, preferably <= l~M, still preferred <= 0.l~M, as well as modified GAG binding proteins.

La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant d'introduire un site de liaison aux GAG dans une protéine, qui comprend les étapes suivantes: identification d'une région dans une protéine qui n'est pas essentielle pour la conservation de la structure, et introduction d'au moins un acide aminé basique dans ledit site et/ou délétion d'au moins un acide aminé encombrant et/ou acide dans ledit site, ce site de liaison aux GAG présentant une affinité de liaison aux GAG de Kd <= 10µM, de préférence <= 1µM, idéalement <= 0,1µM. L'invention se rapporte également à des protéines de liaison aux GAG modifiées.
