Circuitry in central and remote transceivers is disclosed to monitor wireless telephone signal levels and control the settings of gain control circuitry in a plurality of remote transceivers that carry telephony signals between wireless telephones and the central transceiver via an optical distribution network. The central transceiver therefore receives the remote wireless telephony signals from all transceivers within a given range of signal amplitude.
