A generally discoid gambling chip (10) comprising two identical disc halves (11, 12) contacting one another via respective axial spacing rings (21, 22) on the inner surfaces thereof. The hard plastic disc halves (11, 12) are fixed together by injecting a plastic seal (14) into the edge surface (35) of the chip in a circumferential annular region (16) located between the two disc halves (11, 12). Said disc halves (11, 12) have a central recess (26, 27) forming an inner central space (28) for an electronic identification device (30) embedded in an epoxy resin pellet.
