A game ball (10, 20, 100) having a cover (14, 26, 104) formed from a crosslinkable thermoplastic polyurethane is disclosed. Various types of game balls are described, including golf balls (10, 20) and softballs (100). By selecting exposure to radiation, the thermoplastic polyurethane cover is crosslinked and its hardness is increased. Typically, increases in hardness values of at least 2 units on the Shore D scale are realized upon exposure to 3.5 Mrads of gamma radiation.
L'invention concerne une balle de jeu (10, 20, 100) recouvertes d'un revêtement (14, 26, 104) constitué d'un polyuréthanne thermoplastique réticulable. L'invention concerne divers types de balles de jeu, notamment des balles de golf (10,20) et des balles de softball (100). Pour réticuler le revêtement en polyuréthanne thermoplastique et accroître sa dureté, on sélectionne l'exposition au rayonnement. Généralement, on obtient des augmentations de valeurs de dureté équivalant à au moins 2 unités sur l'échelle Shore D, en exposant ledit revêtement à un rayonnement gamma de 3,5 Mrads.
