A gaming machine for conducting an enhanced wagering game, the gaming machine having a display device, a value input device, and a controller coupled to the display device and the value input device. The controller has a processor and a memory and is programmed to provide an option for manual reel set-up, which is selected upon detection of a manual reel set-up wager received from a player. The manual reel set-up option is enabled in response to detecting the manual reel set-up wager. The processor is further programmed to detect manual rotation of one or more of a plurality of symbol bearing reels by the player to place symbols on the reels in a first symbol array, which is selected by the player.
