Abstract of the Disclosure A process for preparing a stable, pharmaceutically acceptable, non-solvated anhydrate .gamma.-crystalline form of the cephalosporin antibiotic, sodium 7-(D-.alpha.-formyloxy-.alpha.-phenyl- acetamido)-3-(1-methyl-1H-tetrazol-5-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem- 4-carboxylate, is described herein. This process involves the conversion of a source of sodium 7-(D-.alpha.-formyloxy-.alpha.- phenylacetamido)-3-(1-methyl-1H-tetrazol-5-ylthiommethyl)- 3-cephem-4-carboxylate with a mixture of a polar organic solvent and miscible antisolvent under anhydrous conditions.
