Abstract of the Disclosure A gantry crane having an access stairway is disclosed as including an overhead load carrying beam, a first support structure including a pair of legs which is connected in a hinged fashion to the load carrying beam, and a second support structure connected to the load carrying beam. A stairway having a plurality of upwardly spaced apart stairway sections is supported on the gantry crane by mounting means for connecting the stairway to the first support structure. The stairway sections comprise vertically inclined stairway sections with adjacent sections inclined in opposite vertical directions. A crossover landing is connected between adjacent pairs of stairway sections. The mounting means of the stairway is connected directly between the first support structure and the stairway and may be connected directly between a leg of the first support structure and the stairway. The stairway is mounted on a side of the support structure which is away from a load carrying beam.
