GAP CONTROL SYSTEM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The gap between the stator and the rotor of a gearless type drive, (i.e. where the rotor forms part of and is rigidly connected to the driven part of the equipment and wherein the equipment is mounted for rotation about an axis of rotation on a pair of spaced apart bearings) is controlled by sensing the clearance between the rotor and the stator at spaced locations about the stator and adjusting the position of the axis of rotation of the equipment by positioning means in at least one of the bearings controlled in accordance with the sense location of the rotor to maintain the clearances substantially constant.
