A garment hanger having a unitary polystyrene plastic design. The hanger has a centrally located hook, a generally linear body member, a first arm member mounted to the end of the body member by a first cantilever mount. The arm defines a first axis and a spaced end. A second arm member is integrally connected to the spaced end of the first arm member. The second arm defines a second axis and a spaced free end suspended between the body member and the first arm member. Each of the first and second arm members has the same width W as the body member to resist movement into and out of a plane defined by the body member. The body member extends generally perpendicularly from the hook. The body member has a pair of opposing ends at least one end having at least a first double action retaining clip. The clip comprises a first elongated member and a second elongated member, situated on the same side and in the same plane of the body member, the first member being closer to the body member than the second member; the second member has a first end and a second end, the second member slanting outwardly from the body. The first end is closer to the body member than the second end, the second end is connected to the hanger body at a cantilever mount; the elongated members are integrally connected to each other to define along their respective axis a predetermined angle; the integral connection also defines an extended junction, the actual junction extending away from the body member in the plane of the body member; whereby a garment receiving channel is defined by the second member, the extended junction, and the body member; the elongated members being designed to primarily flex in the plan of the hanger, the elongated members having a predefined width to thickness (W/T) ratio and length to thickness ratio (L/T) that remains generally constant along each individual member. The elongated members have a width to thickness (W/T) ratio of 1.8 to 3.0 and a length to thickness (L/T) ratio of 8.5 to 14.3.
