ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The gas blast switch of the invention has a resting and a movable contact piece mounted in a housing. The latter is divided into two parts, by a blasting nozzle, which is arranged to become open as the movable contact piece passes through same during the opening of the switch. At its intake side the nozzle communicates connected with an arcing enclosure, and on the outlet side with a blasting enclosure. In order to better adapt the pressure buildup in the arcing enclosure to the current to be interrupted, said arcing enclosure communicates with at least one pressure storage enclosure. The pressure storage enclosures are closed by intake relief valves and outlet relief valves. The threshold pressures of the intake relief valves are graded and adapted to the pressures corresponding to given values of the current to be interrupted. The discharge surge of the pressure storage enclosures flows through the outlet relief valves as soon as the movable contact piece has been retracted from the blasting nozzle.
