CANADA ABSTRACT A process for cleaning gas from an industrial process, e.g. a steelmaking converter, and for ventilating the building in which the industrial process is carried out, comprises collecting dirty gas direct from the industrial process to provide a first dirty gas stream of relatively high particle concentration; collecting dirty gas escaping into the building to provide a second dirty gas stream diluted with ambient air to a relatively low particle concentration; subjecting the first gas stream to a primary gas cooling and scrubbing operation; mixing the first stream from the primary gas scrubbing and cooling operation with the second stream; and subjecting the mixed streams to a secondary gas cleaning operation in an electro-precipitator located adjacent the roof level of the building.
