The invention relates to a base for an electric discharge lamp (1) with an ignition device. Said base comprises a support (16) for the electronic components (23 to 30) of the ignition device. The support (16) has a top surface and a lower surface. High-voltage carrying components (23 to 26) of the ignition device are arranged only on one side of the support (16) and low- voltage carrying components (27 to 30) of the ignition device are arranged only on the other side of the support (16).
