Abstract of the disclosure A gas-fuelled electric lighter comprises a high voltage generating circuit for generating a sparking energy sufficient to ignite a fuel issued from a fuel outlet valve, a pair of switching contacts each of which is electrically connected to each terminal of the high voltage generating circuit, and a first and second actuators for controlling movements of the switching contacts relative to each other to effect operation of the high voltage generating circuit.
