ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A generally cylindrical gas generator housing construction provides a maximum volume of solid fuel gas generant charge for a given generator diameter and height, and thus, is characterized by reduced bulk and weight. The housing construction is further chara- terized in its use of aluminum in the place of steel for the structural components thereof that must withstand enormous thermal and mechanical stress during the short functioning periods thereof, thereby effecting a further reduction in weight while enabling manufacture in high production rates at low cost and meeting the high reliability standards required of a safety device.
