The invention relates to a gas generator (1) for unfolding and filling an impact cushion (24) of a restraint system. Said generator comprises a gas generator housing with a seal (2), for receiving fuel for producing filler gas for the impact cushion (24). The invention also relates to a restraint system for vehicles and a method for unfolding and filling the impact cushion (24) of one such restraint system. According to the invention, fuel is used exclusively to produce the filler gas, said fuel being in the liquid phase and ready to operate the gas generator (1), and if necessary, i.e. when the restraint system is triggered, abruptly evaporating. The evaporation required when the restraint system is triggered is caused by a release of pressure in the heated liquid fuel in a closed pressure chamber (3), said fuel being especially water.
L'invention concerne un générateur de gaz (1) destiné à déployer et remplir un coussin gonflable (24) d'un système de retenue. Ledit générateur comporte un boîtier de générateur de gaz présentant une fermeture (2), conçu pour recevoir un propulseur destiné à produire une quantité de gaz de remplissage pour le coussin gonflable (24). L'invention concerne également un système de retenue pour automobiles ainsi qu'un procédé de remplissage et de déploiement du coussin gonflable (24) d'un tel système de retenue. Selon l'invention, la production de la quantité de gaz de remplissage fait intervenir exclusivement un propulseur se trouvant en phase liquide à l'état d'attente du générateur de gaz (1), et s'évaporant brusquement en cas de nécessité, c.-à-d. lors d'un déclenchement du système de retenue. L'évaporation nécessaire en cas de déclenchement est créée par décompression du propulseur liquide chauffé dans une chambre de pression fermée (3), ledit propulseur étant notamment de l'eau.
