ABSTRACT A gas hob comprises a glass ceramic top plate (25), gas-fired heat radiating burner units (17, 18, 19) closely below the top plate, each burner unit having a lower plate (32) with a number of concentric chambers (33), and a ceramic burner plate (35)over the lower plate, the burner plate (35) being perforated to match the arrangement of chambers (33) to provide concentric gas burning rings, supply o-f gas to the burner units being controllable by respective control valves (11, 12, 13) enabling gas to be supplied only to the or each burner plate perforation at which supply of heat is required, a fan (20) below the level of the burner units for supplying air to the plenum chamber (21) in communication with ducts (29) leading to the chambers (33), the fan supplying combustion air at all times when a burner unit is in operation, and gas from the control valve mixing in the ducts (29) with air from the plenum chamber (21) before entering a chamber (33) and then a gas burning ring.
