A hygrometer is disclosed having a sampling chamber, the chamber including an inlet for the in-flow of gas to be sampled, an outlet and an orifice; a dew point sensor probe housed within the sampling chamber; a compressor for circulating gas through the chamber; the compressor including an inlet and an outlet; a first line connecting the outlet of the chamber with the inlet of the compressor; a second line connecting the outlet of the compressor with the orifice of the chamber; a holding tank; and a third line connecting the second line to the holding tank. A method for calibrating a hygrometer and taking dew point measurements is also disclosed.
