Abstract Flexible, microporous, hydrophobic and oleopho- bic film-like composite structures comprised of from 25 to 75 parts by weight of inorganic reinforcing microfibers, particularly glass, and from 75 to 25 parts by weight of a polymeric binding agent, prefer- ably a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate, the polymeric binding agent being in the form of a con- tinuous matrix and derived from an emulsion or latex of the binding agent in which the particles of the binding agent are less than 1 micrometer in size. A treating agent, preferably a fluorinated hydrocarbon, is present in an amount sufficient to render the composite structure hydrophobic and oleophobic.
