A flame spray pyrolysis process for the preparation of ultrafine titania particles coated with a smooth, homogeneous coating of one or more metal oxides is provided. The metal oxide coating is achieved by contacting the titania particles with a metal oxide precursor downstream of the titania formation zone, after the titania particles have formed. The process provides titania particles with a high rutile content and a smooth and homogeneous coating of a metal oxide.

L'invention propose un procédé de pyrolyse par projection à la flamme pour la préparation de particules d'oxyde de titane ultrafines revêtues d'un revêtement homogène et lisse d'un ou de plusieurs oxydes de métal. Le revêtement d'oxyde de métal est obtenu par la mise en contact des particules d'oxyde de titane avec un précurseur d'oxyde de métal en aval de la zone de création d'oxyde de titane, après que les particules d'oxyde de titane ont été formées. Le procédé fournit aux particules d'oxyde de titane une teneur en rutile élevée et un revêtement lisse et homogène d'un oxyde de métal.
