ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The relative concentration of the components of a mixture of gasses is altered in a system which includes a cell having chambers separated by a semi-permeable membrane and a means for creating a pressure differential across the membrane. The mixture flows through the inlet means and around the cell in countercurrent reflux flow. An altered mixture is retrieved through an outlet means. The cell may be formed from modular units which can be arranged to achieve a tapered cell configuration so that the flow rate around the system is substantially constant.
