A system and method is provided for recovering a re-usable grade of sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) from a potentially contaminated gas source. The system includes extraction vessels (10) connected to the potentially contaminated gas source. A first cryogenic means (15) reduces the temperature of the extraction vessel to a temperature below the phase transition of SF6 causing a pressure differential which causes the potentially contaminated gas to enter the extraction vessels (10). The SF6 turns to liquid and/or solid form in the extraction vessel (10). Non-condensed contaminant gas is evacuated from the extraction vessels (10). Recovery vessels (22) are connected to the extraction vessel. A second cryogenic means (25) is used to reduce the temperature of the recovery vessels (22). Raising the temperature of the extraction vessels (10) creates a pressure differential which causes a re-usable grade of SF6 to enter the recovery vessels (22).

L'invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant de récupérer une teneur réutilisable d'hexafluorure de soufre (SF¿6?) provenant d'une source de gaz potentiellement contaminée. Ce système comprend des récipients d'extraction (10) reliés à la source de gaz potentiellement contaminée. Un premier dispositif cryogénique (15) permet de diminuer la température du récipient d'extraction à une température inférieure à celle de la transition de phase de SF¿6?, ce qui provoque un différentiel de pression permettant au gaz potentiellement contaminé d'entrer dans les récipients d'extraction (10). SF¿6? prend alors une forme liquide et/ou solide dans ledit récipient d'extraction (10). Un gaz contaminant non condensé est évacué des récipients d'extraction (10). Des récipients de récupération (22) sont reliés au récipient d'extraction. Un second dispositif cryogénique (25) est utilisé afin de diminuer la température des récipients de récupération (22). L'accroissement de la température des récipients d'extraction (10) sert à créer un différentiel de pression qui permet à une teneur réutilisable de SF¿6? d'entrer dans les récipients de récupération (22).
