A B S T R A C T The invention resides in the field of removal of acid gases from natural or process gas streams by treatment with aqueous alkanolamine solutions. The invention is corrosion inhibitor system for such alkanolamine solutions, the system consisting of (1) from 10-2000 parts per million of an amine or mixture of amines having the formula Image wherein n is an integer from 1 to 3, m is an integer from 2 to an integer sufficient to yield a molecular weight of up to 800, eac- of R1, R2, R3 and R4 represents a member selected from the group consisting of -H, -Cn, H2n,OH, Cn,H2n', or -Cn,H2n'N(R3)R4, n' is an integer from 1 to 2, and wherein R1R3 and R2R4 are joined together and n' is 2; (2) from 0-1000 ppm of copper or copper ion-yielding compound; and (3) from 0-1000 ppm of sulfur or a sulfur atom-yielding compound. The advantage obtained is that comparable or less corrosion results when treating high H2S gas streams and less corrosion results when treating high CO2 streams.
