A GAS SPRING ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A draftsman's table comprises a foot portion and a table top. The table top is height-adjustable. For assisting height adjustment of the tabletop a gas spring is connected by its cylinder to the foot portion and by its piston rod to the tabletop. The tabletop can be arrested with respect to the foot portion by an arresting device. If the arresting device is released after an unintended pressure drop has occurred within the gas spring, the tabletop suddenly sinks down without substantial damping. This can cause accidents. In order to prohibit such accidents the passage between the working chambers of the gas spring is closed in dependency on decrease of pressure.
