A b s t r a c t The invention describes a gas-tight fully protective suit (2) which is worn in a polluted environment and protects the wearer against toxic substances. If combustible or explosive mixtures of gases and vapors are present in the surrounding air and are within the lower explosion limit and therefore constitute a risk of explosion, the wearer must be warned by being informed of the fact. To this end according to the invention, a measuring and alarm instrument (1) is disposed under the suit and comprises a diffusion measuring head (3) having active and inactive gas-detecting components. The diffusion- measuring head (3) is disposed in a gas-tight easing (5) in the suit material (2a), the easing being separated from the outer atmosphere by a diaphragm (12). The diffusion-measuring head (3) is connected by a cable (4) to the indicating and alarm instrument (1), which is secured to the wearer's body (Fig. 1).
