ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A gas turbine combustion chamber having a primary zone comprising a series of separate axially extending tubular sections with, the downstream marginal portion of each section relieved within an axially coextensive upstream marginal portion of the succeeding section to define an annular axially extending passage therebetween for admitting a film of cooling air for cooling the internal walls of the chamber. The coextensive portions of adjacent sections are supported in their spaced relation by a wiggle strip disposed therebetween having walls separating the annular passageway into a plurality of individual flow paths. The downstream marginal portion of each tubular section extends axially beyond the downstream edge of the wiggle strip walls a distance sufficient for dissipation of wakes formed in the flowing cooling air by the walls to thereby increase the cooling effectiveness of the air film once it exits the annular passage. This downstream portion beyond the wiggle strip walls is also tapered to a minimum thickness edge to increase the effectiveness of the cooling air by reducing wakes formed by the terminal edge of the tubular section that would otherwise also cause early mixing of the cooling air with the combustion gases.
