ABRIDGEMENT ABSTRACT A power plant includes a gasification section having a first fluidised bed in which coal is partially gasified to produce a gas and char. The char is fed to a combustion section wherein it is burnt in a second fluidised bed. The power plant is advantageously provided with a turbine section coupled to an electricity generating section, the gas being employed for combustion and subsequent expansion in the turbine section.
