An insulating gasket (1) is provided for a galvanic cell, adapted for disposal against the peripheral area of a flat electrode within the cell, the gasket comprising a ribbed portion (11) that extends between opposing segments of the gasket. The ribbed portion (11) functions as a restraining means to prevent or reduce bowing of the central area of the flat electrode during or after assembly of the cell. Also provided is a galvanic cell, for example an air depolarised cell, that comprises the gasket, and a method of sealing galvanic cells using the gasket.
