ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A gasket for use in a plate type heat exchanger comprises an elastic material, such as rubber, covered with a U-shaped Teflon sheet. The elastic material and Teflon sheet are integrally joined together by an adhesive agent or by meshing with each other. Alternatively, the required region of the outer periphery of a gasket made of an elastic material may be covered with a Teflon sheet.
