An apparatus (50) and method for inserting a gasket (32) into a channel (28) of a mating part (20). The apparatus includes a gasket carrier (66) having a convexly curved surface with a groove (78) therein for receiving a base (34) of the gasket. The groove registers with the channel to feed the gasket into the channel in response to relative rocking movement between the part and the surface. According to the method, a gasket is placed in the groove and the gasket carrier is juxtaposed with the part to align the gasket with the channel. The part and the gasket carrier are moved toward each other for a portion of the gasket to enter the channel. A relative rocking movement is caused between the part and the gasket carrier to transfer the remainder of the gasket to the channel.
L'invention concerne un appareil (50) et un procédé d'insertion d'un joint d'étanchéité (32) dans une gorge (28) d'un élément correspondant (20). Cet appareil comprend un dispositif de support (66) de joint présentant une surface recourbée de manière convexe et pourvue d'une rainure (78) destinée à recevoir une base (34) du joint. La rainure se place en face de la gorge pour déposer le joint d'étanchéité dans la gorge, par suite d'un mouvement de basculement relatif entre l'élément et la surface. Selon ce procédé, on met en place un joint d'étanchéité dans la gorge, le support de joint étant juxtaposé avec l'élément, de manière à aligner le joint avec la gorge. L'élément et le support de joint sont déplacés l'un vers l'autre, de manière qu'une portion du joint entre dans la gorge. Un mouvement de basculement relatif est provoqué entre l'élément et le support de joint pour transférer le reste du joint d'étanchéité dans la gorge.
