A fixation device for holding stimulating electrodes in electrical contact with the wall of a portion of the gastrointestinal tract is provided. In one embodiment, the fixation device includes an expandable member that fixes the electrodes in electrical contact with the gastrointestinal tract wall. Also provided is an implantable device and method for controlling the opening and/or closing of the pylorus. In particular a device and method is provided for stimulating the duodenum to control the closing/and or opening of the pylorus. Finally, a method is provided for treating obesity by controlling the pylorus to retain food in the stomach for a desired period of time, among other things to provide a feeling of satiety and/or to reduce hunger. One aspect includes controlling the pylorus's contraction by electrical stimulation of the duodenum.

L'invention concerne un dispositif de fixation destiné à retenir des électrodes de stimulation en contact électrique avec la paroi d'une partie du tractus gastro-intestinal. Dans un mode de réalisation, le dispositif de fixation comporte un élément extensible qui fixe les électrodes en contact électrique avec la paroi du tractus gastro-intestinal. Elle concerne également un dispositif implantable et un procédé permettant de commander l'ouverture et/ou la fermeture du pylore. Plus précisément, l'invention concerne un dispositif et un procédé permettant de stimuler le duodénum pour commander la fermeture et/ou l'ouverture du pylore. Enfin, l'invention concerne un procédé permettant de traiter l'obésité, le pylore étant commandé pour retenir les aliments dans l'estomac le temps voulu, afin de procurer notamment une sensation de satiété et/ou de réduire la faim. Dans un aspect, l'invention concerne la commande de la contraction du pylore par stimulation électrique du duodénum.
