GATE LATCH ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A latch assembly for a gate of a type in which a movable gate post is pulled into position closely adjacent a fixed gate post includes a hook portion for engaging around the movable gate post, a chain wrapped around the fixed gate post, a lever operable to pull the hook portion inwardly and a U-shaped strap portion pivotally mounting the lever. The U-shaped portion is pivotally attached to an actuating bar of the lever at a position remote from the hook member so as to provide the maximum amount of movement. The lever is cranked so that it can fit inside the U-shaped member thus allowing the maximum amount of movement to the released position.
