GEAR CHANGING MECHANISM Abstract of the Disclosure A pair of bi-directional roller clutches are con- nected through outer races to separate gear sets and share a common inner race connected to a driven shaft. A shifting member is slidably mounted on the common inner race and is selectively engagable with the retainers of the roller clutches, thereby locking the rollers of the engaged clutch in the free-wheeling mode and releasing the rollers of the other clutch, allowing that clutch to engage when its races are rotating at synchronous speeds and thus drive through its associated gear set.
