A gear shift lock for use with vehicles having a gear shift lever which is mounted on a steering column of the vehicle wherein the gear shift lever is attached to a gear shift ring at least partially surrounding and displaceable with respect to the steering column, the gear shift lock including a lock body fixedly mounted with respect to the vehicle, an engagement member fixed to the gear shift ring for displacement together therewith, and a lock yoke selectably and lockably engageable with said lock body and said engagement member for preventing unauthorized displacement of the gear shift ring.
