The invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition in the form of gelatin capsules consisting of a filling containing as active ingredient ranitidine or a physiologically acceptable salt thereof surrounded by a gelatin shell. The filling is formulated based on a non- aqueous matrix consisting of at least one fatty acid glyceride and/or mineral oil or paraffin. Preferably the matrix contains at least one surfactant. The matrix is essentially hydrophobic in character but is also sufficiently hydrophilic to permit dispersion and dissolution of the capsule filling in the gastrointestinal tract.
