This invention provides a coating composition in which the principal film former is gelatin for use in coating tablets. The gelatin coating may be used with tablets, with or without any subcoating, and may be applied using conventional equipment. For a subcoated tablet, the coating formulation contains gelatin, a surfactant and a drying agent. This coating formulation provides cost savings and manufacturing efficiency in comparison to previous gelatin or polymer coating formulations and methods.

L'invention concerne une composition d'enrobage dans laquelle on utilise comme substance filmogène principale de la gélatine pour enrober des comprimés. L'enrobage de gélatine peut être utilisé avec des comprimés, avec ou sans sous-couche d'enrobage, et peut être appliqué à l'aide d'équipements classiques. Pour un comprimé présentant une sous-couche d'enrobage, la formulation d'enrobage contient de la gélatine, un tensio-actif et un siccatif. Cette formulation d'enrobage permet de réduire les coûts et d'assurer un bon rendement de fabrication, par comparaison avec des formulations et des procédés antérieurs d'enrobage de gélantine ou de polymère.
