27283 Abstract of the Disclosure Gelled acidic compositions suitable for either matrix-acidizing or fracture-acidizing of subterranean forma- tions comprising water, a water-dispersible polymer selected from cellulose ethers and polymers of acrylamides, an acid, an aldehyde, and a phenolic compound capable of causing gelation of an aqueous dispersion of the polymer, acid, aldehyde, and phenolic compound are provided. In another embodiment, guar gum, polyvinylpyrrolidone and biopolysac- charides can also be used as the polymeric component in said compositions.
