The present invention has its object to provide a gelling agent for a battery, which forms a paste gel in a short period of time on dissolution in an alkaline electrolyte. The gel has less bubbles and a high gel density. The present invention is a gelling agent for a battery, which comprises granular carboxyl group-containing polymer particles having a median particle diameter of 100 to 800 µm and a bulk density of 0.30 g/ml or more, and has a gel turbidity of 200 ppm or less and a gel density of 1.37 g/ml or more in a gel, the gel being prepared by adding 2 parts by mass of the granular carboxyl group--containing polymer particles to 98 parts by mass of 40% by mass of an aqueous potassium hydroxide solution.
L'invention vise à proposer un agent de gélification pour batteries qui peut former un gel pâteux qui souffre peu d'une inclusion de bulles et a une densité de gel élevée dans un temps court lorsqu'il est dissous dans une solution électrolytique alcaline. L'invention porte sur un agent de gélification pour batteries qui consiste en des granulés polymères contenant du carboxyle, ayant un diamètre de particules moyen de 100 à 800 µm et une masse volumique apparente de 0,30 g/mL ou plus et qui donne un gel ayant une turbidité de 200 ppm ou moins et une densité de gel de 1,37 g/mL ou plus lorsque 2 parties en masse des granulés polymères contenant du carboxyle sont ajoutées à 98 parties en masse d'une solution aqueuse à 40 % en masse d'un hydroxyde de potassium.
