ABSTRACT A catalyst and process for gelling prepolymers comprising Lewis acid salts and their use decreases the gelling time for prepolymers prepared from aliphatic isocyanates and oxyethylene oxide containing diols or polyols. The catalyst decreases the gelling time to minutes depending on the concentration and the resulting pH of the aqueous mixture in which the prepolymer is gelled.
