23233-250 ABSTRACT Novel gels rich in hydrocarbons and consisting of 50 to 99.5% by weight of a hydrocarbon or an oil, 0.005 to 20% by weight of a surfactant, 0.49 to 49.99% by weight of water and 0.005 to 20% by weight of a water-soluble polymer. The gels show improved rheological properties and heat stability compared with gels which do not contain a water-soluble polymer in the aqueous phase. The gels are useful as fracturing fluids in the tertiary recovery of petroleum and natural gas and as medicinal or cosmetic preparations.
