The present invention relates to newly identified genes that encode proteins that are involved in the synthesis of L-ascorbic acid (hereinafter also referred to as Vitamin C). The invention also features polynucleotides comprising the full-length polynucleotide sequences of the novel genes and fragments thereof, the novel polypeptides encoded by the polynucleotides and fragments thereof, as well as their functional equivalents. The present invention also relates to the use of said polynucleotides and polypeptides as biotechnological tools in the production of Vitamin C from microorganisms, whereby a modification of said polynucleotides and/or encoded polypeptides has a direct or indirect impact on yield, production, and/or efficiency of production of the fermentation product in said microorganism. Also included are methods/processes of using the polynucleotides and modified polynucleotide sequences to transform host microorganisms. The invention also relates to genetically engineered microorganisms and their use for the direct production of Vitamin C.

La présente invention concerne des gènes nouvellement identifiés qui codent pour des protéines qui sont impliquées dans la synthèse de l'acide L-ascorbique (ci-après également appelé vitamine C). L'invention concerne également des polynucléotides comprenant les séquences de polynucléotides de pleine longueur des nouveaux gènes et des fragments de ceux-ci, les nouveaux polypeptides codés par les polynucléotides et les fragments de ceux-ci, ainsi que leurs équivalents fonctionnels. La présente invention concerne également l'utilisation desdits polynucléotides et polypeptides comme outils biotechnologiques dans la production de vitamine C à partir de microorganismes, une modification desdits polynucléotides et/ou polypeptides codés ayant un impact direct ou indirect sur la productivité, la production et/ou le rendement de production du produit de fermentation dans ledit microorganisme. L'invention concerne également des procédés/méthodes d'utilisation des polynucléotides et des séquences de polynucléotides modifiées pour transformer des microorganismes hôtes. L'invention concerne également des microorganismes génétiquement modifiés et leur utilisation pour la production directe de vitamine C.
