2079903 9115580 PCTABS00007 The present invention provides a method for the treatment of inappropriate or pathological cell growth such as exists in cancer, malignant cell proliferation, benign proliferative diseases and other pathological cell proliferative diseases. The present invention also provides a method of treating cell-proliferative diseases in individuals comprising administration of one or more active gene copies of a negatively-acting growth regulatory gene (NGR) element to an abnormally proliferating cell. In another embodiment the present invention provides a method to inhibit abnormal cell proliferation by inserting into an abnormally proliferating cell, a synthetic DNA or RNA construct of the present invention which construct inactivates the functional expression of PGR element.
